Not-So-Routine-Yet: week of workshops, birthday, farewell, gathering and catch-up

I didn’t go to gym for a single weekday this week :( and it’s because I have been busy eating and drinking. ^^; For some reasons, this week has been full of buffet and restaurants and cafes. It’s so wrong, but it feels so right (I can’t remember where I got this quote from).

Ok, Lets start from Monday! Oh, before that - Last Saturday was the 端午節. I’m lucky enough to have 2 meat dumplings all the way from hometown for celebration during the day. Nom nom. Thanks Mum and sis :)

Bak Cang - the reason why I remember 端午節
Monday

Monday was the start of my 3 days workshop at ORQ. The workshop wasn’t mandatory, but it’s definitely interesting. I was hesitating to attend knowing that I have work pilled up from 2 weeks ago. After hearing some advices, I decided to go for the training. I went to office on Saturday, cleared up my back log, and then setup yet another out-of-office :p

Well, the training did worth spending my Saturday in office. I got to meet the business people from various branches and learn about the product we offered :) The training was well planned from 9am to 6pm, with few breaks in between. The good thing about having the training in office is that I got to connect to network and responded to urgent emails during break :) It means fewer disturbances during the training itself.

During lunch break, I got to meet up with Mimi – my fella graduate trainee from Jakarta. She is now working in Singapore as FI trader around the Raffles Place area. Haven’t been exposed to the lunch crowd for a while, I was happily recommending Golden Shoes, and was really in shock to see all the endless queues @.@ We spent half an hour just to find seat! I was definitely below par in this. I ended up choosing the stall with shortest queue rather than the ones with best food. Thankfully, we still got some time to chat and catch-up. She is staying in Orchard right now and getting married soon in Oct! Congrats Mimi! Really happy for you :)

With Mimi after lunch :D She is still as cheerful as 4 years ago!
I thought I will be very sleepy in training after lunch, but no – the subject was interesting enough to keep me awake until the end of the training :) After training, I met up with Winson and we went for dinner at Asia Square. It was my first time there. I tried the Indonesian stall – Sanur Bundo. It served good portion good quality Mee Goreng. Highly recommended :)

Asian Square Queuing System - Most probably the most advance kopitiam in Singapore
Tuesday

As my alarm rang at 6am, I was contemplating if I should go to the Fitness First at ORQ before the training. In the end, I decided to spend more time sleeping; with excuse that I got too many bag to carry (handbag + shoes bag + laptop bag) =_=.

Having good sleep, I was fully awake during the training. The sandwiches and little cakes served during the training was so good, I guess I was busy eating and didn’t have time to feel asleep. I like the topics shared on Tuesday the most. The trainers were really fun, too.

For lunch, I got to catch up with Bee Leng, my teammate when I was in Asset Management team. She has moved from GTO to business side now, and it’s surprising to know how much have changed since the last time we met. We have nice lunch + coffee at Shenton House. I missed the place! Used to be one of my favorite lunch place.

With one of the most friendly person in the whole AM :)
Training ended early at 5pm, and there was an invite for networking session at 6.30pm at pub nearby. At the same time, there was another invite from baggi for his b’day treat. I decided to go for latter – went to Plaza Singapore for b’day gift shopping and then to Chijmes for dinner. It took Glen and me 3 mins to get his gift, but half an hour to decide what to eat. In the end, we picked Carnivore – a buffet that I have been wanting to try for the last 3 years!

The waiter actually posed like this for 30 sec for me to start my iphone cam and take pic
The food was… disappointing T_T Ok, I think the salad bar was not bad, even though it’s still not better than Sizzler’s. I don’t really like the meats they offered (which supposedly their specialties!) The lamb and beef have a strong unpleasant smell, the chicken was a bit tasteless, and the grilled pineapple was dry and sour. They don’t really have many options – chicken, beef, lamb, pork, sausage, ham, pineapple, chicken heart. I think that’s all they have in their 47++ buffet menu. A bit pricey for the kind of limited selection T_T

Almost everything they have at the Salad Bar
Having said so, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the services. Their staffs are really friendly. We chatted and finally knocked off at around 10pm. I was totally full. Of food and drinks and fun.

With the b'day boy - iPhone4s quality is not very good afterall =(
Wednesday

I wasn’t even bother trying to wake up early anymore ^^; I slept until almost 8am and then just went straight for the training. The training was really lecture-like on that day – teaching us from the basic to the complete end-to-end workflow. There were few urgent things in between – I spent my lunch time on phone with snacks from the training :p. I went off from the training earlier and back to MBC office at around 4pm. It was just nice – big boss was calling for urgent information as I stepped out from bus. The rest of the day was filled with calls and meetings – just as how I expected it ^^; I left at around 1am that day.

Thursday

The training ended, so it’s supposed to be my first back-to-normal day. Yet, I was so sleepy from the night before and can’t force myself up for exercise. I reached office at around 9.30am and work as usual.

At twelve, I went for Marco’s farewell lunch at Sugar and Spice. His last day is 4th July – what a great date selection ^^; Well, his tenure in DB has been a short one – less than a year. We’re glad that he found a new permanent job in one of the top 4 companies. Wish you all the best for your future endeavor! Keep in touch! :)

Lunch @ Sugar and Spice! I love their Chili Beef Noodle!
Thankfully, I didn’t have to stay late for that day :) Got to leave at around 7pm for dinner at Dawson before 8pm. We went to Fair Price after dinner to get some fruits (and two packs of chips. Ehem). I bought papaya for the first time. Back home, I happily cut the papaya, and then realized that it's still raw T__T What should I do? How am I supposed to know whether it has ripen or not? There goes my $2.5 Dole Papaya.

Friday

I was again contemplating if I should go for gym as my alarm rang at 6am. I decided not to, with excuse that I was not feeling really well and it might turn into flu if I didn’t take enough sleep (I’m running out of excuse very soon).

So I went to office in normal time, spend an hour clearing off my mails, then went for 2 hours fire warden briefing. Honestly, when I received the invite for 2 hours briefing, I was wondering what would they want to cover.

Central Meeting Hall @ MBC - feel like being a student all over again!
It ended up as 15 mins of waiting + 15 mins of briefing + 15 mins of video + 75 mins of buffet lunch. Well, the lunch caught me by surprise. Same like Tuesday, I again had to decide between free lunch vs gathering lunch T_T Why life has so many choices! I decided to go for both. I took some of the buffet lunch, and then went for my lunch with ladies at JPot.

Buffet Lunch *Melt
Back from lunch, I had my first meeting with my mentor. Gosh, she was mesmerizing (it’s definitely not something you should be feeling about your mentor =___=) She is the head of communications in our region, so I guess its normal to feel hypnotized by her speech. She was so soft and kind! I start to stereotype that all Scotland people are just super friendly and nice to chat with.

From 3 to 6pm were filled with back-to-back meeting. Since I didn’t intend to spend my Friday night in office, I rushed through my reports and managed to finish my deadlines by 7.30pm. I kept the rest for Monday and went out for my date at Vivocity. We had nice dinner at Bakerzin. Even though I don’t have sweet tooth, I still ordered their Lava’s cake – which is on top quality :) Thanks for the treat!!

His: Some healthy chicken tapas
Mine: Bratwurst Balsamico - Love the sausages!
Warm Lava Chocolate Cake - Nyummy!
After dinner, we wandered around. I checked out the new Macbook Pro’s retina display, which doesn’t seem much different for me. Yet, I do like its new hard disk and slimmer design :) We walked around until around 9.30pm and then went back home. Back to Queenstown, I realized that I forgot to bring some papers back from office =__=’ I ended up going back to office to pick the stuff. Went back home at around 11pm and spent the night watching “Safe House”.

Saturday

Woke up early and went to ICA at Lavender. I reached slightly early at around 7.40am. To my surprise, a super long queue has already formed outside the building. I was like the 300th people in the queue. By the time the clock hits 8am, there must be at least 500 people in the queue. I didn’t know where did most of them go, but floor 6 was pretty empty, and I was the 4th people in the queue. I managed to submit my application this time :) The processing time will take 9 months, so I won’t think much about it for now.

The queue infront of ICA building
Finally managed to submit the papers!
I passed by Redhill Q&M to try my luck in getting check-up without appointment. Well, I reached at 9am and she recommended me to come back at 7pm at night =_=’ I ended up making appointment for next week. I need to use up my dental allowance before the new term kicks in :p

It was still early in the morning, so I pushed myself to go to Fitness First (finally I ran out of excuse) and did 12km run. After run, we went for lunch at Anchor Point, and then I spent my afternoon in the dreamland.

I woke up just in time for dinner ^^; We went to Marina Square to collect ShapeRun pack and have dinner with Karlina and Sylvia. Most of the restaurant were supre crowded. We ended up at Café de Waraku. I had their Tuna Curry Omu Rice, which was to my liking :D We chatted until around 10pm and then took MRT back together.

Free 4R shot in the ShapeRun goodie bag!
Dinner @ Cafe de Waraku
My Tuna Omurice! It's as sinful as it looks
Sunday

Woke up at 6.55am to book badminton court and then went back to sleep. Finally really woke up at 8.50am. This time, we went to Jurong East Sport Complex for badminton. The place was quite far – around 15 mins walk from Chinese Garden MRT, but the courts was not bad. There are equipped with at least 10 shower rooms, which are welcomed for all of us who always shower after badminton :)

The first time I went to Jurong East Sports Complex
There are lots of coffee house around, too. There is one which is famous for the bak kut the, but since it’s lunch time and quite crowded, we decided to go for the more spacious kopitiam. We reached back home at around 2pm, and then I have to do my weekly chores – laundry and ironing. Afterwards is a bit of free time to chat with family and blog :) And soon, it will be time for dinner again! :D

It's finally raining!! :O
