The Mid Module Training

It has been a pretty exhausting week. Oh gosh, I feel sleepy simply by recalling all the events.

Sunday was supposed to be my project day… but imitidated with meeting the guys and girls from aussie and japan, I went all out: visiting Sentosa, jealousing their stay at Swisshotel, and dining in Suntec Plaza. Afterwards, they went off for Night safari and I went straight home, just to be welcomed by a bunch of house works. After ironing the last piece of my cloth, I dropped to bed and sleep.

After Sentosa

Monday was bluer than usual. That’s because I needed to wake up earlier and reached Raffles Convention Center at 8. Never mind with reaching at 8, I didn’t expect that they assumed us to have our breakfast already! My stomach ended up singing loudly in class until 11, when we finally had some tea break before the real lunch at around 13.00. Thanks God the lunch was awesome. The training continued until 6, before we got our business speaker series and headed for the networking event until 10. I have no mood to drink at all. I tried my best to sleep before 12, but pretty hard as the weather was hot and my aircon was broken.

Tuesday was a happier day because we started at 9. Learning from experience, I grabbed 2 slices of Breadtalk on my way to training center. This time, I’m too full and almost fell asleep during training. The training was good, I’m not kidding, and time passed pretty fast. I went back to office at around 7, clearing my 500 emails, and then having dinner at Lau Pa Sat before heading to Brewerkz. I reach back home at around 12, and slept after shower.

Brewerkz (Never know how to pronounce it)

Wednesday was my last day of training. The training was terminated gracefully. Never before had I taken training so focus on every one of us. After the class, we have a great lunch and a debrief until around 4. I was really glad to reach back home at around 6.30 for that day, managed to get some swimming before dinner and doing some preparation for the project meeting on the next day.

The yummiest dessert from the training

On Thursday, I went back to office. My work had already piled up, and the meetings took up half of my day. I spent the rest of my day trying to get ready for the next day. The day doesn’t end at 6. I went for dinner at 7, and then headed towards China One and Pump Room for the farewell parties. The companions were awesome, but I had my limit with 3 Vodka Oranges. I am glad that I could still make it home, drag my self to shower, before knocked unconscious until the next day.

Friday was very challenging. I needed to concentrate a lot as one of my colleagues was on leave, and I have been exhausted through out the week. I ended up skipping my lunch and apologizing to my team mate for not being able to attend an internal project discussion. Thanks so much for being so dependable, mates. I ended my day at 8, headed towards PS and had a great dinner treat by Helios, the birthday guy. Happy Birthday Helios! I choose the right day for skipping lunch, don’t I? I had at least 5 slices of pizza. Haha.. We chatted until around 11, catching the last train to bukit batok, and getting a taxi to reach back home. Thanks I didn’t have to hike. I was so exhausted before deciding to sleep at 2.

Happy Birthday to Helios

Saturday… is finally here. I couldn’t sleep as much as I want though. I went to Sata Clinic to get my medical check up for PR, and then went to Bugis to buy the most delicious swiss cake in Singapore. Afterwards, I went back home, had some rest, then sent my flatmate back to Medan. Oh gosh, I want to go home too!! Haha.. but there is so much to be settled before I can start to plan for holiday… sigh.

I can’t believe that May is ending and June is peeping from the corner. There are so many things to do in June, with no holiday to be expected T_T Sometime I don’t know what I want. I am hoping this June Month-of-Project to go off soon, but then I realize that there are more and more stuff coming after that. Life is never boring, huh?

Tired, exhausted. Apologize for all the grammatical error as my eyes are left with 5 watt.

The Grumbles

Do you ever hate someone so much that, even when you know the person is you client, all your purpose in life is to make the person suffer to the utmost?

Do you?

I don’t.

But I’m now in the position of the poor “someone”. OK I’m not really in a so-high position of a client, but hey, you supposed to be our helping hand.

What do you get by ignoring my emails? What is your purpose of contacting everyone else in the team but me, clearly knowing that I’m the one in charged with the issue? What make it so hard for you to pick up my call? What on earth is your benefit of nagging to my team about myself?

This particular person really tested my patience a lot. I am sort of pissed more because I know why this is done to me and only to me. Alright I’m not that knowledgeable. Alright I need more time to do the task. Alright sometimes I asked questions that sound so idiotic to you. But what make you think it’s acceptable to slam on my every call? Hey!

I don’t get it. Please understand that I am not calling to chat with you. If I can get the answer somewhere else, I would rather go all around the world to get it rather than giving you a call. You might have a high pride or whatever you want to call it, so you think I have none?

Stooo piiid. It makes things so hard for you and me. The more you did it, the more time I need to get things done, and the later I can compile and send it to you. Guess what, you will be the one to feel the end suffering.

Thanks for driving my mood down the hill for the last two weeks. I truly learn a lot from you. Call me lucky to have cross path with you. You’re the extreme unique individual that I could only dream to find in 101 ways to handle difficult people.

--- End of Grumbles ---

Those were the grants and grumbles that have been stacking for the last two weeks. Hah… I feel so good now. To blame other is truly human nature huh? (or it’s only my expertise? Hahaha)

Anyway, as for now, I am no longer as mad as that with the person. Interacting with this particular person has indeed opened my eyes to a different world. After 2 weeks, I started to understand and not taking it so personally anymore. No one can hurt you without your consent :p After all, I prefer someone who tells me directly of how lousy I’m, rather than someone who act good but backstab me from behind.

So, to all my friends who happen to read this: If you have anything that you don’t like about me, please share. I’m ready to have it and be a better person :)

Project ongoing, training upcoming, but movies come first~ :p

Angels and Demons - The Movie

This Saturday, I intended to donate blood and watch a movie at Dhoby Ghaut. Yet, I didn’t manage to do the blood donation as it was too crowded :( Feel quite sad… I was so prepared with all the passport and document with me already T_T

Anyway, despite cancelling my blood donation… I still feel the lack of oxygen and almost fell asleep in the cinema. Nothing wrong with me, it’s the movie.

I have expected that it won’t be as good as the novel… but to have it change so dramatically, and to have all the important scenes removed… it literally furies me right from my seat.

How can they summarize the first half of the book in 10 minutes? It was shockingly simplified! And hello? The murdered guy was a ‘colleague’ of Vetra? It was his father! Where is the CERN director? The Cardinal Baggia drowns to dead, come on! That is what you called the fifth very grand symbol? What is the true reason behind the Pope murder? Where is the scene of Langdon jump from the helicopter? Where are all the twists? T_T

I admitted that they might not be able to capture the whole things into one 2 hours movie… but this movie was missing the whole thrill. Maybe I got so frustrated because I have just read the novel and it is still so fresh in my mind. But still! Asking my friends who haven’t read the book, they said it was boring as there were so much conversation at the beginning.

So, those reviewers have been so merciful to give 3/5. I will give 1/5. I think I will get better pictures by reading Wikipedia :(

Thanks that I still enjoyed all the things other than the movie. It was my first time being in The Grand Cathay – it is so grand and spacious. So many youngsters and it makes me feel a bit younger again :p hahahaa.. After the movie, we have KFC from 10 to 11. Great time to get hold of the latest gossip :p Once I was back to home, I felt super sleepy and doze off after feeding my waiters at restaurant city ^^;

The Grand Cathay @ Dhoby Ghaut

Next week, my roommate is going to Japan... Where as for me, my next week will be the GTO Mid-Module training T_T what a contrast. Enjoy it to the fullest ya, roomie! Will surely miss seeing your figure…

Time to start my research after the whole weekend of relaxing,

The Interdependent

This is an update from my previous post. I was wondering, how can someone move from dependent, independent, towards dependent again?

After finishing Sherlock Holmes novel (for the countless times), I moved on to “The 7 habits of the highly effective people”. Thanks to my flat mate who like to buy books (although reading them is another question altogether, yeah :p), I have a list of motivational books on the shelf.

Self explanatory from the title, this particular book talked about the 7 habits that you should have in order to have an effective life. Before I even started to read the first habit, I got the answer to the question I was asking previously.

A plain extract from the book, page 49:

We each begin life as an infant, totally dependent on others. We are directed, nurtured, and sustained by others. Without this nurturing, we would only live for a few hours or a few days at the most.

Then gradually, over the ensuing months and years, we become more and more independent – physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially – until eventually we can essentially take care of ourselves, becoming inner-directed and self-reliant.

Sound familiar? :D

As we continue to grow and mature, we become increasingly aware that all of nature is interdependent, that there is an ecological system that governs nature, including society.

Dependence is the paradigm of you – you take care of me; you come through for me.

Independence is the paradigm of I – I can do it, I am responsible, I can choose.

Then? Then?

Interdependence is the paradigm of WE – we can do it, we can cooperate, we can combine our talents and abilities and create something greater together.

Simple? Yup.

For me, the interdependence explains everything. That’s why we need other people… to achieve something greater than what we can do best alone. I wonder how can this simple theory just slipped from my mind ^^; If you need more explanation, go buy the book, or apply to be my flatmate :p hahaha…

Alright… that’s all. Need to sleep now so that I can wake up early tomorrow. This is an application of habit 2: begin (sleep) with an end (wake up) in mind :p see, I apply what I read. Hahaha…

Ok ok, last note, although I am not really a fans of motivational books, I realized that reading some of them might help to boarder your thoughts and hopefully, make you think more positively of your life :)

Angels and Demons this Saturday!

Is it the truth?

Nowadays, it has become an obligation to look for “the other meaning” behind every explicit word and action. You’re naïve if you just believe everything and assume nothing else.

Really, I was a naïve (maybe I still am). I used to believe everything, until the time I heard the same person saying two different things to two different person, and gosh, in so convincing a way!

It makes me doubtful, to think if they really meant whatever they said to me. I started to lost confidence towards myself and still… even if I know what their real thoughts about me are, will it change anything?

Let’s take some similar examples. Your bosses praise you, saying that you’re such a hard worker. Will it make things better if you know they just treat you as a cheap labor? Or when your superior said things to reassure and comfort you, will it be better if you know things are actually worse?

After few weeks in total lost of my own, my answers to all the questions are… no. I was so wanted to know the truth in everything before, but now… I don’t really care. Maybe it’s like I’m living in my own world, but then, worrying too much of what other things doesn’t make thing better. What not just believe that everything is good, until you’re specifically told otherwise? =] however, it doesn’t really mean that you should be ignorant of everything, just that you should not care more from what is necessary.

Ok, just a pen of thought this time. I’m going to end this Vaesak and Mother’s day weekend watching “Push” and wishing my flatmates enjoying their time at Vietman :p

Tired of guessing,

Wednesday Grumbles

I feel bad today. This is a bad entry about the bad me.

There are many small incidents pilling up and contribute to the state I’m right now.

It started as the clock ticked 12 AM.

  1. My air con went down. I could hardly sleep, and felt very hard to get up in the morning.
  2. It rained when I wanted to go to office. It makes the floor slippery and I missed the bus.
  3. I was scolded twice when I asked for 2 set of free newspaper. Thanks to my big mouth of offering my colleague to get those newspapers.
  4. I got new cereal and it tasted awful.
  5. My dear counterparty at the other end of world decided to forget attaching a file. I needed to wait for them to wake up at 4pm SG time while being the blacksheep-ed for all the furious enquiries from clients.
  6. At the same breath, the documents that supposed to be faxed to me early in the morning; get delayed until 3pm, which have passed the cut off time. How can people in two different countries decided to torture me at the same day!
  7. I went for lunch and get to know how my colleagues think about me. It’s a real big slap to my face. I know I'm not as good as you, but I am trying, real hard. And that's what makes me hurt real bad.

(point 8 - 13 are sensitive and encrypted with key: bad)

In the mist of Long-Weekend

I'm thinking...

Should I start this entry “self-contented” or “self-pitying”?

The intonation of my blog-of-the-week depends a lot on my feeling when writing it, not on the week as a whole. This time, it takes me 3 hours to decide. My current mood is quite bad, and I have written 3 paragraphs describing how cruel has the world been to me, till I realized that I am exaggerating and my week isn’t that bad after all.

So let me scraped off all the bad things and start new :p

All in all, it has been a sweet short week. Except for some unexpected leave from my colleagues, everything else has been fine. I got more things to do, which in line with getting more things to learn and appreciate.

With regard to the side project from graduate training program, we managed to schedule our meeting on Thursday. I don’t know why, but things never go smooth when I worried too much about it. Only when the meeting had been confirmed, one of my team members said that he can’t make it. It took some time trying to request for other slot before finally deciding to stick to the original schedule, Thursday 10.30. On the Thursday itself… oh, what a mess.

I woke up a bit late, reaching office just in time for doing my daily operations routine, minus the breakfast time. I was thinking of having my cereal just after the morning work, but then… the system decided to go down for the first time on that day, causing panic to my whole team, and I needed to manually input whatever is done by the system. Quite a lot of work, I’m not kidding you. Together with the fact that one of the main team member is on leave, bad mood started to come my way.

As expected, I didn’t manage to finish what I supposed to do; I apologized to my team member, and went for the meeting. I waited for around 5 minutes for my friend at lobby, run all the way to the meeting place, and late for my first meeting. And oh, I didn’t have my breakfast. Bad mood ++ again ^^; (note: I always feel that this is the bad side of working with gals, they are emotional! don’t they?)

The meeting was overrun, but it was really a meaningful meeting. I can’t wish for a better sponsor. Really. I packed back Malay food, and had a great 2 hours lunch at pantry, which leave me with guilty feeling at the end of the meal.

So, I work myself until 11.30 on that day. I was the last person to leave the office (the second last leave before 9pm) and I can’t resist from taking some pictures of my current seat while no one is around (hope that I am not breaking any law)

My really-open cubicle @ ORQ

Next day is the Labor Day, as well as my brother’s birthday. Happy Birthday, my dearest brother! :) When I called, he said that he was not working on that day too, not because of the Labor Day, but there is a policy in his company that everyone gets a leave during their birthday. How cool is that!

I went to Johor Bahru on that day. My first experience at JB, after almost 5 years in Singapore. With the fact that it took less than an hour and a dollar to go, I shouldn’t have to wait that long. Thanks so much Fendi for being our Dad of the day: paying all of our expenses upfront. Hahaha.. I myself felt that I have a great time there, minus the embarking time when I was almost breathless inside of the hot jammed cramped bus. We shopped around City Square, and had a refreshing walk at the side of Danga Bay. The food experience was good, despite the fact that we haven’t hit the famous Chinese seafood yet. Maybe next time ;) We have our illegal 5 person in a taxi, twice! And the driver did it for RM12. Believe that I can never experience it in Singapore. haha..

Three Gals @ Danga Bay

Anyway, one thing that astonished me: Bahasa Indonesia is useless at JB! There were so many times that we simply gave up of asking what we want and accepted whatever come when ordering food. However, again (as a pretty emotional gal), I reached my level of tolerance during the dinner.
1. We ordered a set meal from the menu, but the waiter said they don’t have it and asked us to order ala carte only. Lucky Fendi went to ask the boss, and he said that they indeed have the set meal. So we ordered set meal in the end. Annoyed level: 2
2. We ordered Sotong Bakar RM 10, and the waiter said that the Bakar is not available yet. Only the Sambal is there, so we ordered Sambal. Annoyed level: 4
3. We ordered coconut drink, and five minutes later, the waiter came back and said that they run out of coconut. Annoyed level: 6
4. The waiter asked us to get and weight the fish that we want, despite all the time we have told her that we’re ordering from set meal. Annoyed level: 10
5. As Jess felt like having Sotong Bakar and some time have elapsed since the order time (due to all the misunderstanding), I approached the waiter and request if we can change from Sotong Sambal to Sotong Bakar. She said ok. Annoyed level: down to 8
6. Our first order, fried fish, arrived, but the rice wasn't served yet! Annoyed level: 9
7. Our chicken arrived, but not fried as stated in menu, and it was still raw!! Annoyed level: 11.
8. The Sotong arrived. And it’s Sambal, not Bakar =.=’ I was speechless, but the other said that it’s alright. It came with prawn too, which we didn’t order. Annoyed level: 12!
9. And after all the food and relaxing conversation, when we wanted to pay, the sotong cost RM 15 instead of the RM10 that we requested. I was already really ready to shot the waiter, but all the other quickly pull me back. Tell me, is it really only me that is too emotional? The rest seems to easily let it go :( I feel bad myself.
10. After we walked off, I just remember that they didn’t serve us the fruit, which were included inside the set menu.

That was one of the experiences at Johor. The rest wasn’t that bad, really. The food is nice, the cloths are cheap, and the environment is good, just that I have some cultural shock. If I’m visiting it again, I will make sure that I set my expectation right :)

IPA - 1 Small Reunion @ Johor Bahru

On Saturday, I slept until 1.30pm and shocked with myself. I did some home cleaning, went swimming, and watched Fast and Furious to end the day. It was such a short day ^^;

On Sunday, I woke up earlier, do some jogging, some swimming, some washing, and then relax for the rest of the day. I did some self reflection too; trying to understand myself better… why am I paying so much attention to detail but tends to ignore the big problem ahead? Why I like to pin point every single mistake of a person?

Think that I learn a lot more about myself this year :) Can’t believe that I have written so long =.=’ Time to go and do other things =D

Bad mood no more,
ED
