31st January 2008 is such an unforgettable day. It’s unforgettable not because of happy moments though. Today, our Information Retrieval finished early.. 1 hour earlier than usual. But no body seems to be smiling when walked out from LT 3.
Kuiyu, the almightily lecturer, finally revealed our assignment. It’s to build a search engine… from SCRATCH… and to add MORE functionality THAN Google search… we’re NOT ALLOWED to use any library, expected to write a PAPER kind of report, and whole things must finished in 2 MONTHS time, starting from today. worse yet, this is only for our FIRST part of course. We will have another QUIZ for second part of the course.
I thought I made my biggest mistake on First semester when I chose Cryptography as my PE… this information retrieval made me felt like cryptography is heaven and LPC is a saint. Can u believe that this whole search engine only weighted 25% from the whole grading? Add on with the fact that undergraduate taking this IR course is less than 50%, I really scared with the outcome of this course… Now I really have no clue why I was preferring this course from Simulation before.. Why?

Week 3 Ends.
This is a very random post =]
- CNY Cards
Since 2004, I always sent CNY greetings card to my family.. However, because they usually gathered together, typically I will only need to send 2 cards: 1 card to TB (Mum, Dad, Sister, Brother) and another card to Medan (Big sister). But then.. this time around, my brother and sister didn’t went back to hometown.. ends up I need to send individual card to them too.. :p
The process itself is a long journey.. First, I need to buy the card. Since I’m too busy (read: lazy) to go to jp, I tried to ask some of my friends to buy for me.. but too bad, all the people I asked, suddenly cancel their trip to JP ^^;.. eventually, I decided to buy it at NTU. I’m thinking to give Nanyang Market a try.. but then, Peko told me that it should be available at SBS market as well.. so there I go to obtain my CNY cards.. they were lovely ^^ Thanks Peko for the suggestion!
Next is the writing. For mum and dad, I need to write mandarin.. hmm hmm.. Hasn’t been writing since the last year CNY card. And my brain is absolutely deteriorated. Finally asking help from Alan.. Thanks for all the wonderful phrase! (Although I might not understand some of them ^^;)
Next is the address. Beside my own home address at TB, I didn’t know the address of the rest. End up still need to ask my sisters and brother one by one, and look for postal code from internet. My sister in Taiwan gave me the address in Mandarin T_T (I should have expected that) So.. I need to expose my poor chinese at envelope as well.. I hope that it wont be returned back due to readability.
Next is sending. I went to Nanyang Market to send the card. Rush all the way during my one hour break. But Alas, I met my FYP supervisor on the way there and got warned about FYP T_T hahaha.. Oh yes, The stamp price is $0.55 for CNY card, disregard to where you send it to.
Ok, so that’s end my story for CNY.. They said that it should be delivered in 14 working days.. Hope that it won’t be a belated CNY card again like last year. Hahaha..
Why I blogged about this? Because I just know that it’s indeed a long way (and some sacrify) to get my card sent =.=

I shall not blogged too deep to avoid revealing too much.. but I still need to blog it, because I want to remember this event, as there are a lot of funny lame jokes in the process of ‘helping’. Hahahaa.. XD

But.. yeah, Macbook Air is somehow lacked of function =.=’ How to survive with only one USB port? But anyway, it’s still a really huge innovation, and I’m glad to be one of the witnesses! XD

Last year, they are selling pins. This year, they are selling bookmark ^^ I heard that they were still confused of what to do for the fundraising on Sunday, but on Tuesday night, they already start selling! I noticed them at hall 14 and hall 16.. and they are the same people selling! Very hard-working =D I really have a high regard for those type of people ^^ I support them.. by buying one of the bookmark.. huahhahaaa.. (still stingy =.=)

Just watched the Tsubasa OVA 2.. The story line turns very fast.. and I can’t follow it anymore.. ends up searching on wikipedia. Haha.. but the wikipedia reveals too much of the story lines T_T Now I know most of what will happen.. The plot is great.. really great.. Kudos to Clamp! Looking forward for more great arts ^^ hehehee...

I’m addicted to Facebook.. to "Fluff Friends" and "Scratch and Win" particularly. I check Facebook about every hour and spent 20 minutes on it… which is very bad, because it means that I didn’t concentrate on whatever I was doing (usually FYP). Haha. But The Fluff friends is very cute ^^ and the Scratch and Win is quite addictive. Lucky that they set a limit for daily play ^^; Anyway, the more I used facebook, the more I realized the features they offered.. which are quite superb! They are really customer oriented, knowing what the customer want: ease of use, speed, intuitive. No wonder they gain popularity in such a short time!

I don’t like to keep textbook… because I hardly open any of them anymore after exam. I decided to sell my AI textbook during the second-hand book sale organized by my school. Upon the collection date, I was very sad to see that the book returned to me again, without any buyer T_T not 2 hours after I collect back the book, suddenly someone sent me sms saying that she wanted to buy the textbook. Yipii! Thanks imall =D hahaha..

Celebrating my one week of insomnia, I watched Conan Special Edition from 2.30 AM – 4 AM on Saturday. The Shinichi… hmmm ~.~ so so.. the Ran… hmmm ~.~ also so so. Hahaha.. The story line… hmm.. I’m shocked that I spotted flaw correctly =.= maybe I have read too many detective books. Hahaha… Upon asking my roomie, she told me that the first episode was indeed not very successful.. Hm.. Ok, I’ll give you another chance for the second episode, Conan ;)
Hmm... Ok, till here my random post.. Because of the movie, I ended up wake up at 12, and didn’t have mood to do any other thing.. hence blog ^^;

Last Thursday, I had my 6 hrs lesson, straight from 3.30 – 9.30. I was very exhausted.. can’t absorb anything during the last 2 hrs.. and it means that I didn’t understand 2/3 of my information retrieval lecture, which happen to be a subject with neither proper lecture notes nor a lecture recording. The lecturer, Kuiyu, didn’t joke as much as he did during software engineering course. He gets very technical now.. Maybe because most of the students are Master, hence the joke isn’t appropriate anymore? Anyway, the content of the lecture itself is very abstract to digest… O.o
Late, difficult, and straight 6 hrs lesson. Looking back, I can’t remember why I choose this subject T_T. Too bad that I realize my fault only on Monday, after the add/drop period ends. Now I have no choice but to accept the consequences. I felt dizzy when I look at the tutorial… really T_T Why I didn’t take simulation at the first place? I felt dumb now…
Well.. at least I still have friends there ba.. rite, peko? Erikson? :p hahaha.. let’s fight our best for this gloomy subject T_T
On Tuesday, I walked at level 2 of N4.. prayed hard that I didn’t meet my supervisor.. and fated, I bumped to her before I finished my pray..T________T she took the chance to ask for my updates and a time for demo. T__T I’m really scared.. I haven’t done 20% of it.. how to demo? T_T ix….
A lot of people have started to write report. But I’m still stuck with experiment… Now is also already in second tutorial.. but I haven’t even look at my first tutorial.. and stupid me always sleep in the lecture T_T
Seems like I can start to feel the rush and stop slacking. Finally.

(My) Blood Donation
Second week passed. Add/Drop period ends. Modules are confirmed. All tutorials started. Some enthusiast lecturer has already posted their assignment…
And for me, this is just another week without FYP :S
Except donating blood, I didn’t do anything special this week.. When I was idle, I would be browsing facebook, hunting for delicious food, and searching for new songs (Have everyone listened to New Soul, the song used by MacBook Air commercial? :D )
I really need someone to bring me back to FYP reality.. please.. T_T
Since donating blood is the only thing I felt worth mentioning, let’s talk more about it.
As I remember, the blood donation drive in NTU usually held after recess.. a lot of people (including myself) always used the timing as excuse not to donate, as the whole assignment deadlines are coming and we can’t waste any single day feeling short of energy (kiasu lor)
This time around, the blood donation is held on 2nd week of school! Woow! Kudos to the organizer! (Although when I read the Chronicle, they said that it’s because they didn’t manage to secure a place after recess =.=) So, I have no reason not to donate this time =D I happily asked any people around me to donate along.. but sadly, not many are available T_T a lot of people are having cough.. sigh.. I didn’t realized that until the time I asked.. Thanks though to Vera and Henry to still accompany me to the blood donation ^_^
So, 3 of us went there on Tuesday, 1 o’clock. Although this is not my first time donating, but I still feel very nervous, scared even when they want to take my temperature.. :S not funny. I wait around half hour before finally get into the donation area.. the nurse attached to me was very professional looking.. make me somehow relieve.. ^_^ but then.. she said that my vein is so small, “Never do sport, is it? Must do more sport” sigh.. at that time, I started to get scared again.. what if they can’t find my vein and tried it several times until a lot of holes in my hand? T_T hahaha..
But my worries didn’t last long, as the nurse can find it quite fast.. the pipe was put on my hand.. soon after the injection, I can felt the warm blood running out from my hand to the packet.. kinda scared that I decided not to look at it after awhile. However, no more than 5 minutes, another nurse came and take out my needle already. Heh? That’s all? So fast? O.o.. how come? But when I look at the blood packet, yeah, it’s full already.. wow.. how come my blood flowed so fast? The person beside me, who started first, hvn’t even finished yet ^^;.. maybe it’s due to my enthusiasm.. hahaha..

Anyway, since I finished quite fast, I relax quite a bit in at the refreshment corner.. the juice and snack are nyummy~ haha.. soon afterwards, I was full and went back to hostel for a good sleep.. wake up for a dinner at can 16… then went to sleep again.. ah.. what a nice excuse not to do FYP, huh? T_T hahaha…
I learnt quite a lot from this blood donation. Now I know what AB is a very rare type.. (but maybe it’s a very common knowledge for other) haha.. alrite, now I know that Yandhi and Tatsu are AB type (wow, my friends are rare species!) :p.. Henry is B, Vera is A, and I myself is O. Together all of us forming a complete set of blood types.. hahahaa.. (so lame) The real thing that I learn was.. how it can saves 3 lives. I heard a lot about this phrase, but I never understand it before. Does it mean that the blood can be opened, used half, and then kept for next use? NO! haha.. Now I know that it means our blood can be divided to 3 different components and being used for different kind of blood need. So that’s it! Haha..
Ok.. till here my story about blood donation… Very glad that I can join the blood donation during my last semester here =D and one more happy news I get is that.. Red Cross managed to break the records of 4 digits AKA 1000 donors! They managed to get 1004!! 173 + 260 + 270 + 301!!! WHUAA! This is really the first time in NTU history.. and I’m glad that I’m participating in breaking this record.. =D haha.. Thanks all my friends who have donated: Yandhi, Henry, Yongky, Arlene, Erikson~ (sorted according to donating time) without all of you, we wont reached the 1000! Hahaha.. (like they donate because of me =.=) Anyway, Thanks Red Cross for organizing this drive!

Sixth, Seventh and The End
The party on Friday was indeed fun.. However, I think I have unintentionally hurt some people with my blabber… I’m sorry about that… I’ll pay more attention to my words next time :x..
The group picture we took this time is quite unique in it’s own way.. It’s random sitting this time (because everyone lazy to move) but turn out that the result is quite nice.. Back from the party, I recharged myself until 10 the next morning.. then do the usual house-keeping before going for the last meeting for BCC. It finished at 7pm.. then have a ‘grand’ dinner at canteen 13.. it’s really big portion.. even for my size.. +__+ (or my stomach getting smaller? ;P) It made me full until the next afternoon.. haha..
Seafood Hor Fun, Can 13, $3.00. Agree that the size is gigantic?
On Saturday, I wake up only at 12.. then continue to editing the BCC final report… then went to marina bay to meet Indra at 5.30.. I have already reserved my stomach for buffet dinner.. but then… we just know that all the restaurant were already CLOSED! Due to the IR construction. We don’t want to believe it, hence taking the bus, have a one round ride, before finally accept the bitter fact that there is no even one restaurant leave.. (we should have ask the bus driver in advance =.=)
Finally, we discuss on where to eat.. I suggested Carl Jr… but most people suggested Ajisen Ramen.. and they won T_T huhuhu… I wanted Carl.. but then.. I never tried out Ajisen as well.. so I went there as well =D.. it turned out that the food was nice.. and think about it now, most of us weren’t in our fittest condition at that time. Eating Carl Jr will make it severe. Thanks pals for beating my sinful appetite. :p.. haha..

After the dinner, we went to Clarke Quay.. The night scene was very romantiiic there… too bad that my camera can’t capture the light well T_T.. It’s either too dark or too blur. Ok… Next camera must be able to handle this problem! (Start saving again..)
After walk, we reached back hostel around 11.30… shocked to see so many msn windows in my computer.. finally decided to leave some to be settled on Monday and slept at 1.30..

Fifth Day.
Remember that I got promised It land to help her with library promotion… So I went to library at 9.. help her by being a ‘photo model’ at Chinese Heritage Library and HSS library until 11.30 T_T I felt super funny. Afterwards, we have lunch together at Canteen B, then went to Media Resource Library for awhile before sitting back at Lee Wee Nam waiting for my only lecture at 2.30
Still, I don’t have much mood to study or do my FYP.. hence decided to blog :s how ar.. I am really THAT lazy T_T.. I need to update my supervisor today.. but I really seem to have nothing to update… sigh sigh sigh…
Will have a party tonite (yeah).. continued with Barcaps final discussion on the next day. Someone.. please stop me from keep delaying my FYP.. T_T

Fourth Day.
Woke up quite early.. then went to library, returning and borrowing some books.. then played Facebook until lecture time (see, I always can find reason for skipping FYP T_T).. My data mining lecture started at 4.30… ends at 5.30.. then went to have a dinner… then continue with Information Retrieval lecture until 9.30. Yup, the lecture was 3 hours!! Kuiyu and Ee-Peng are as nice as expected ^__^… Introduction of the course was given by Ee-Peng.. around half hour.. then Kuiyu started to give lecture. The class.. hmm.. was quite big.. with half master student and half undergraduate :S It’s a bit awkward.. master students are quite outspoken.. kept interrupting through out the lecture =.= but some of their questions were very funny… like “Do we need a calculator?” :s.. Is it so important that you need to know it now? =.= haha..
Anyway, Kuiyu made us laugh from the very first moment.. when he started to use his light pointer… his pointer was HUGE =.=’ almost 3 times brighter and bigger than the usual pointer size. ^^; (oh yes, he didn’t wear Hawaiian this time.. only a polo shirt and a short =.=) Then then.. he explained the prerequisite of the course.. he was saying that we don’t have to be expert in any programming language for this course.. as long as can compile Hello World, it’s enough.. Same thing with OS… as long as we can installed OS from scratch for more than 10x, then it’s enough… haha… but then he added “You did it almost every time with Windows, it shouldn’t be a problem” then we all burst out with laugher.. ^^;
One thing I didn’t expect from him was that.. he taught non-stop until 8 oclock! @.@ ee.. not really non-stop.. because during teaching, suddenly there was one person calling him from skype. He forgot to turn it off! Wakakak… and.. instead of quickly turn it off... he read the chat and replied to his friend.. with all of us watching!! so funny lor. Not long after, he told us to have “10 minutes” break.. then he continued chatting and saying that he is on “20 minutes” break… lol.. he is very “open” hor. After the break, we continued again until 9.15 @.@.. I was expecting something like Advance algo, in where he will let us go at 8.30.. seems like I day dream too much :p.. haha.. anyway, we will require to form a group of STRICTLY 2 people. My group contains of 2 people, 1 duck and 1 lizard. Lol
I reached back room at 9.30… have no motivation to do any other things… just chatted and going to sleep soon..

Third Day.
I have no lesson today... Have promised myself to do FYP... but then, my computer, again, dont want to cooperate!! It kept restarting all in sudden again.. :'( First occurance was when I was using Matlab.. afterwards, it restarted everytime I opened something... sigh.. Come on computer.. u're not so old yet right.. T_T And I just changed your motherboard, your power supply, even your memory... Why you still pout at me T_T
Maybe this is a sign not to do FYP? wakakak..

Second day.
If you saw me keep posting blog.. you know something is wrong... yup.. just like what happened last semester, i kept trying to find excuse (in this case, blog) to avoid doing my project (in this case, FYP).
I had added distributed system.. unbelieveable, the vacancy dropped to 0 a minute after I added it... ^^; I don't understand what make it so popular...

First day.
Set my alarm to 7.30, but woke up at 8.15 (so sorry roomie…) have 4 hot slices of bread + 2 slices of melt cheese + hot coffee for breakfast.. then went to school.. My first lecture was Advance Data Management Techniques (a.k.a data mining).. the lecturer taught quite fast.. and pretty soon, I lost track of the lesson and started to doze off… ZzZz.. what a perfect first lecture =.=’’ The lecture was 2 hours some more..
After data mining, we continued with Distributed System… the lecturer is my CSC203 tutor! Haha.. I still remember him.. must said that he looked more professional giving lecture. His voice was more pleasing.. but I still can hardly concentrate.. sigh.. after 3 years of lectures, I still haven’t learn the concentration technique. The lecture finished at 12.30.
During the free time, I accessed the lectures that I just attended (note: still in add drop period) the first one looked quite ok… but this semester it switched to close book instead of the usual open book.. the second one.. will be expecting a lot of memorization.. and it didn’t look that easy.. but how come it become the favorite subject? (judging from attendees and the only-6-vacancies left)
At 5.30, I went to another lecture: image processing. And well, it seemed interesting as well T_T the subjects this semester seems to be all worthy.. but I only can choose 3.. so contradict from last semester.. when I really chose a subject because there is no other better choice. Haha..
I was puzzled until night.. course selection.. always like that... useful-but-hardtoscore vs useless-but-easytoscore... after 10pm, I finally decided to consider no more.. I need to get my timetable out soon… To lower to risk of regretting, I finally go with the flow (a.k.a have no self point of view =.=) and pick those most registered subject: Data Mining and Distributed System. Another one that I really looking forward is the Information Retrieval on Thursday.. kuiyuu.. nyu nyu~ hahaha…
I didn’t do much today.. not my fyp although I planned to do so.. :S but at least I got my subjects sorted out.. haha.. I must bid goodbye to Image Processing and Simulation.. so sorry that I need to forgo you both.. I would have taken you, if only u were offered in the first semester >_<
I’ll have 2 days with morning lesson, 1 day without lesson, 1 day with 6 consecutive lecture until 9.30.. and 1 day with 1 lesson..
That fully summarize what I have been doing today… not forget to mention hundred races I played in (fluff) facebook =.=’
First 8.30 lesson starts again tomorrow after 1 year,

The final adventure starts now.
The holiday ends… school term starts again.. Sad that now I can’t focus only on FYP anymore.. (… talk like I ever did =.='') haha… but I’m very happy to see all my friends back to Singapore again.. :D and I’m really looking forward for some parties that we’re having soon.. (fufufu..)
Just now, most of us went to JP to have KFC... as to recharge ourselves before the journey commenced.. haha.. I was planning to have 2 breast meats… but then.. They said that one of the meat must be either wing or drumstick.. (Oh no... KFC JP finally updated their regulation).. then then.. there was no breast meat left.. only got tight.. so I must feel satisfied with 1 tight and 1 drumstick… but it’s still as delicious as usual :p

Ferrum-Phobia
Now I scared to touch anything that look like iron-made... say it door handle, lift button, water tap, and even switch button... If you got electric bites 5 times a day, I'm sure that you will feel the same... T_T.. Now I'm pushing the door using my body instead of hand.. using water bottle to switch off the lamp instead of finger... must be looking very stupid =__=... well... at least that it what I can do until I figure out how to eliminate it. Everytime I'm going to touch any suspicious thing, my body reacts spontaniously to avoid it.. haha.. seems like my sensoric still working after all :p
Any easy solution to this problem? Else I will need wear gloves soon :S

Happy New Year 2008!
Did a countdown at beloved TV Lounge, together with beloved friends =) Did the last dinner of 2007 together :p.... then continued with games, countdown, new year resolutions, singing, and chatting :p... finished at around 3 am... then i slept like a pig until 12++ (and still felt sleepy now) hahaha..
Have been a really great countdown celebration.. thanks Rina Henny for the board games, thanks Vera Helios for the nyummy jelly, thanks Winson for the laptop, thanks Helios for the loudspeaker and thanks Nancy for being together with us! (Oh yeah, thanks Media Corp for broadcasting the live countdown as well :p)
